Maligaon, 12th January, 2015: Shri R.S. Virdi, General Manager, N.F. Railway conducted the Annual Inspection of the Alipurduar Division today along with his team comprising of senior officers from the Headquarters, the Divisional Railway Manager of Katihar and the other Divisional Officers. A total of 124 kms of the Division in the Siliguri – Hasimara section was inspected.

The General Manager’s Annual Inspection is an age old tradition of the Indian Railways wherein the complete Railway Infrastructure in o­ne section in each of the Divisions is inspected thoroughly and improvements required for the betterment of the quality of service being provided to the public is assessed.

In course of this inspection, the Gulma, Sivok, New Mal Jn., Binnaguri, Dalgaon and Hasimara stations along with other Railway infrastructure like Bridges, Level crossings etc were inspected. Public Representatives and members of various public organisations met him at these stations. In the course of his inspection, the General Manager inaugurated a modern energy-conserving ‘30% and 70% Lighting System’ by signal-sensoring and automated load controller unit at Hasimara station.

He also inaugurated the renovated two-bedded retiring room at Binnaguri station and a telephone-type PNR enquiry terminal at New Mal Junction. Later, at Alipurduar Jn. he inaugurated a queue management system at PRS, a Model Physics Laboratory in Railway Higher Secondary School, a Physiotherapy unit at Divisional Railway Hospital and the renovated Community Hall.

Shri Virendra Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager of Alipurduar highlighted the following achievements of his Division during the current financial year:

(i)The Division has registered a 29.49% improvement in goods earnings and a 8.8% increase in passenger earnings. The earnings from ticket checking have gone up by 29% as compared to last year.

(ii)A computerised Unreserved Ticket System-cum-Passenger Reservation System (UTS-cum-PRS) was commissioned at Sapatgram and Talk-back system for UTS have been commissioned at Nagrakata, Bamanhat, Odlabari, and a PRS counter for physically challenged persons was opened at New Coochbehar during the year.

(iii)Three Un-manned Level Crossing gates have been closed by replacing them with Limited Height Subways. Three other Un-manned Level Crossing gates have been converted to Manned Level Crossing gates in the year.

(iv)On-line booking of Retiring Rooms have been implemented for all stations having retiring rooms over the Division.

(v)Contracts for Pay-and-Use toilets have been finalised for New Mal Jn. And Binnaguri stations.
