Commissioner of Railway Safety holds Co-ordination Meeting with General Manager N.F. Railway

Shri S. Nayak, Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Eastern & N.F. Circles, Ministry of Civil Aviation, held a Co-ordination Meeting with Shri R.S. Virdi, General Manager, N.F.Railway and his team of Principal Officers at the N.F.Railway headquarters at Maligaon today. Various issues related to the Safety of Train Operations were discussed in the Meeting.

Shri Ravinder Gupta, Chief Safety Officer, N.F.Railway highlighted some of the major steps taken by this Railway during the recent months for enhancing safety:

  • Innovative site mock drills have been introduced for assessing the development of Accident Relief Train Personnel and Equipment at site. This is critical for ensuring speedy rescue and restoration work at the site of an accident.

  • International Level Crossing Awareness Programme was observed all throughout N.F.Railway from 2nd to 6th June, 2014.

  • N.F.Railway has planned for elimination of all Unmanned Level Crossings by 2016 – 17 by either manning these or by construction of Low Height Sub-ways or Road Under Bridges. At the same time, action is also being taken for preventing / closing un- authorized track crossings.

  • High Capacity Fire Extinguishers (15 Kg trolley mounted) are being provided at selected stations.
