Communal Harmony Campaign Week observed in N. F. Railway; Birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan celebrated

The Northeast Frontier Railway observed Communal Harmony Campaign Week (National Integration Week) from 19th to 25thNovember, 2021 to foster and reinforce the strength of public harmony and national integration as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration. The birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan (24th November) was also celebrated.

As part celebration, a pledge taking ceremony was held at the Maligaon Railway Headquarters complex. Shri Anshul Gupta, General Manager of N. F. Railway administered the pledge to all the official present for settlement of all differences and disputes relating to religion, language, region or other political or economic grievances by peaceful and constitutional means. Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Bir Lachit Borphukan by the General Manager, Additional General Manager of N. F. Railway and other dignitaries present o­n the occasion.

The Principal Chief Personnel Officer of N. F. Railway Shri Chandrajit Saikia gave introductory speech of the celebration. In his speech, the PCPO explained about the role of Bir Lachit Borphukan in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat who was a commander in the Ahom Kingdom.

In his address, the General Manager briefed about the significant of celebration of this Communal Harmony Week. He said that Bir Lachit Borphukan is a source of great inspiration for us who awakens the sense of patriotism in the heart of everyone; he was victorious in the Battle of Saraighat and the Mughals were forced to retreat; thus the civilisation and culture of Assam and the Northeast were protected. Everyone should inspire and adopt the ideals shown by our heroes across the country so that along with the railways, we could contribute to noble cause of nation building, the General Manager stated.

The celebrations aim to reaffirm the old traditions, culture and faith in worth of tolerance and brotherhood. It also assists in highlighting the inherent strength and flexibility of the country to maintain communal harmony.
