Five railway staff awarded for exceptional devotion towards duty

Five railway staff namely Sri Surendra Kumar, Gateman of NC-48 (Engg) working under Sr Section Engineer/P-Way/Aluabari, Sri Suman Bhowmik, Guard/ Mail/Alipuduar Jn, Sri P. K. Sarkar-II, Loco Pilot/Mail/ Alipuduar Jn, Sri Abhijit Dhar, Sr. Asst Loco Pilot/ Alipuduar Jn and Sri Jayanta Barman, Track Maintenar-IV/Rangiya, were awarded by Shri Sanjive Roy, General Manager, N.F.Railway for showing exceptional devotion towards duty.

On 30.03.2018, Shri P.K. Sarkar-II, Loco Pilot /Mail/Alipuduar Jn and Shri Abhijit Dhar, Sr. Asst Loco Pilot / Alipuduar Jn while working by train No- 12502 Up from  New Jalpaiguri to Guwahati felt jerk at KM 109/2-3 in face of Torsa bridge (Br.No-116) between Ghoksadanga – Sajerpar stations. They immediately slowed down the speed of the train and stopped the train at Sajerpar against through pass signals without clearing fouling mark and served memo to Station Master of Ghoksadanga. Sectional Permanent Way Engineer attended the site and imposed speed restriction.  Thus possible mishaps were averted due to their alertness.

On 24.03.2018, Shri Jayanta Barman, Track maintainer-IV/Rangiya while working as Keyman of Gang No. 55 detected a rail fracture at KM 348/9 – 349/0 between Nalbari – Ghograpar stations and he immediately managed to control UP NLP Salt goods train in block section with proper protection and inform Mate and Sectional Permanent Way as well as Station Master of Ghograpar Station from Level Crossing Gate SK-18.  A probable mishap was thus averted.

On 22.03.2018, at about 10.50 hrs, Shri Surendra Kumar, Gateman of Level Crossing No –NC - 48 (Engg) / Katihar while performing duty noticed smoke coming out from under gear of Loco No - 16575 of 13142 DN. He immediately indicated to the Loco Pilot to stop the train. The train was controlled in mid section. Loco Pilot & Asst Loco Pilot checked the Loco, extinguished the fire and isolated the traction motor. Thus a possible mishap was averted.

On 21.03.2018, Shri Suman Bhowmik, Mail/Guard/ Alipuduar Jn while working by train No- 12506 Up felt jerk at KM 93/2-3 between Falakata– Gumanihat near NN-49. He immediately informed Station Master of Falakata. Sectional Sectional Permanent Way Engineer attended and imposed 30 kmph speed restriction. A probable mishap was averted.

In recognition of their meritorious service for preventing mishaps/accident all of them were awarded with a cash award of Rs.2, 500/- (Rupees Two thousand five hundred o­nly) each alongwith a certificate by Shri Sanjive Roy, General Manager, N.F. Railway.
