1139 no’s of coaches out turned after POH from January for safe operation of trains

The safe and smooth running of passenger trains entirely depends upon the proper maintenance of various types of passenger coaches. N. F. Railway has taken a major initiative in asset maintenance works in the mechanical field, viz maintenance of passenger coaches under Periodical Overhauling (POH) as and when necessary, at all, depots and workshops. All type of coaches of passenger trains have been given special attention in order to avoid the possibility of untoward incidents due to breakage of springs, loose types on the wheels and other failure of mechanical equipment’s.

During the period from January till November of this current year 1139 no’s of coaches were out turned after POH from the two workshops of N. F. Railway i.e. New Bongaigaon & Dibrugarh. In New Bongaigaon workshop POH of 301 Non Air-Conditioned Conventional coaches, 51 Air-Conditioned Conventional coaches, 93 Non Air-Conditioned LHB coaches & 122 Air-Conditioned LHB coaches were done. Also, in Dibrugarh workshop POH of 323 Non Air-Conditioned Conventional coaches, 60 Air-Conditioned Conventional coaches, 88 Non Air-Conditioned LHB coaches & 101 Air-Conditioned LHB coaches were done.

Production of new coaches for replacement of over-aged stock is a continuous process on Indian Railways. Coaches are replaced after attaining their prescribed codal life or prematurely in case of heavy damage to structural members. All the coaches running on N. F. Railway are periodically overhauled as prescribed in maintenance manuals for ensuring safety during run.
