Hon’ble Union Minister State of Railways & Textiles Smt. Darshana Jardosh visited NFR on 21stMay 2022. one MOU was signed on 21st May, 2022 in her presence between Railways and Sports Ministry for setting up of India’s first ever National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) for Sports in the historic town of Coochbehar. Ministry of Railways, in collaboration with Sports Authority of India (SAI) is set to construct the same. The foundation stone of the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) for Sports was laid in the presence of Hon'ble MOS for Railways & Textiles, Smt. Darshana Jardosh, Hon'ble MOS for Youth Affairs & Sports and Home Affairs Shri Nisith Pramanik and Shri John Barla, Hon’ble MOS for Minority Affairs at New Coochbehar. Senior officials from the Ministry of Railways and Sports were present on the occasion.
With the setting up of this SAI NCOE, Coochbehar will become the national hub for sports. This new centre will provide world class sporting and coaching facilities to aspiring athletes of not only of Coochbehar but also of the Northeast region. National and International events can be organized in Coochbehar. While many sports persons working in N. F. Railway have brought laurels for the country in International level including Olympic, the setting up of this centre will further promote the sporting activities by many folds.
Hon’ble Union Minister State of Railways & Textiles Smt. Darshana Jardosh also conducted a window trailing inspection of the New Jalpaiguri to New Coochbehar section on 21st May, 2022 jointly with Hon'ble Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports and Home Affairs Shri Nisith Pramanik. Shri Anshul Gupta, General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway and senior railway officials were present during the inspection.
She also inaugurated the Integrated Video Surveillance System at New Coochbehar Station 22nd May, 2022. This system will help ensuring safety and security of passengers and Railway Property by monitoring railway premises on round the clock basis. Smt. Jardosh also inspected a stall featuring local products at New Coochbehar station under ‘One Station, one Product’ scheme. This scheme promotes “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and makes railway stations a sales hub for local products.
A review meeting was also conducted with senior railway officials at New Coochbehar on 22nd May, 2022 where she took stock of the landslides affected railway areas in Lumding – Badarpur hill section. Smt. Jardosh directed railway officials to speed up the restoration works to normalise train connectivity at the earliest in the hill section.
