Hon’ble PM Inaugurates 103 Redeveloped Amrit Stations Nationwide Virtually, Haibargaon Railway Station becomes the 1st Amrit Station of NFR

Maligaon, 22nd May, 2025:

The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated 103 redeveloped Amrit Stations nationwide during a central program that was held at Rajasthan. This is a landmark event marking a significant stride in the transformation of Indian Railways under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Haibargaon Railway Station in Assam, being the first and the o­nly station of NFR zone (among 103 stations), is a part of this historic inauguration event, symbolizing the Government of India’s unwavering commitment towards building a Viksit Bharat by modernizing critical infrastructure and enhancing regional connectivity.

The inauguration of Haibargaon station was part of a nationwide event where the Hon’ble Prime Minister, dedicated development projects worth Rs 26,000 Cr. to the nation, showcasing India’s accelerating infrastructure growth. Emphasizing the transformation over the past 11 years, the Prime Minister highlighted Indian Railways’ rapid progress, including the introduction of Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat and Namo Bharat trains, with nearly 70 Vande Bharat routes enhancing connectivity across the country. Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Union Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology was also present at the inauguration programme held at Rajasthan. Over 34,000 km of new railway tracks have been laid, unmanned level crossings o­n broad gauge lines eliminated and 100% electrification is underway. More than 1,300 stations are being modernized under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, over 100 of which are complete- integrating regional heritage with world-class amenities.

The redeveloped Haibargaon station has been designed to function not merely as a transit point but as a vibrant city centre, equipped with a range of world-class passenger amenities, including Divyangjan-friendly features at the station. The architectural design of the station reflects the principle of “Virasat Bhi Vikas Bhi”, blending modern utility with the essence of local Assamese culture and heritage.

The inauguration event witnessed the esteemed presence of Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Keshab Mahanta, Hon’ble Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management, Information Technology, Science, Technology and Climate Change, Assam and Shri Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles. Alongwith noted dignitaries, the GM/NFR Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava along with other senior officials was also present in this national event at Haibargaon. Local MPs & MLAs also took a part at this remarkable event. Their participation reaffirmed the strategic importance of this development for the state of Assam and the entire NFR zone.

The successful redevelopment of Haibargaon Amrit Station is a testimony to NFR’s dedication towards delivering modern, accessible and inclusive rail services that align with the aspirations of New India.
