INTRODUCTION

Tinsukia Division is the birth place of Railways in Northeast India and the Division of N.F.Railway with it’s headquarter at New Tinsukia enjoys the position of being the eastern-most Division on Indian Railways. Railway Board vide its notification-dated 27.6.1988 declared it as a full-fledged Division in 1988.

Tinsukia Division in N.F. Railway is the lifeline for the people of this part of North East Region. This Division serves the people of Upper Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and a large part of Nagaland by carrying essential commodities like Rice, Wheat, M/Oil, Salt and other food stuff as inward traffic. The principal commodities handled in the Division as outward traffic are POL from IOGS & NMGS, Coal from LLO and Fertilizer from NMFS (Coal loading at CGF, BOJ & LXA has been stalled since couples of years due to ban imposed by Hon’ble HC, Gauhati on coal mining in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland). During the current FY, stone chips loading – that has started at LXA in March/2017, BOJ in May/2018 and NMT – to JRNA has also stopped/plummeted affecting the freight earning performance of the Division. Although Tinsukia Division is a small Division in this Railway, yet it caters the need of transport services with regard to freight and passenger traffic to 3 (three) States covering population over 60 lakhs.
