The Principal Chief Signal & Telecommunication Engineer,is the head of the signal & Telecommunication Department of the Northeast Frontier Railway. He reports to the General Manager and co-ordinates with other Principal Heads of Departments. He is assisted by the Chief Signal Engineer for the maintenance of signaling equipment in the railways and by the Chief Communication Engineer for the maintenance of Telecommunication equipment. He is also assisted by the Principal Chief Signal & Telecommunication Engineer, Projects, for execution of signal & Telecommunication works. The function of the signal & Telecommunication Department are: Maintenance of all the signaling equipment in the railway for ensuring their safe and smooth functioning. Taking steps for modernization of signaling systems and ensuring the implementation of the policies on signaling matters at the railway level. Ensuring proper upkeep of the telecommunication equipment in the railway and planning for the augmentation of the communication services and their modernization wherever required. Execution of the projects under Signal & Telecommunication Department. Ensuring the manpower planning, expenditure control and co-ordination with the Department of Telecommunication.
