ASSAM

GUWAHATI


Gateway to Assam and NE region. It is a fast-growing metropolis.

Places of Interest: kamakhya & Bhubeneswari temples (9 Km.), Vasisth Asharam (12 Km), Navagraha temple, State Zoo, Museum, Ghandhi Mandap ,Srimanta Shankardev Kalashetra, Umananda Temple Island.

  • Kamakhaya & Bhubaneswari Temple:
    The Shakti temple of Mother Godness Kamakhya situated on the top of Nilachal Hill is eight Km. away from the railway station of Guwahati.
    The greatest shrine of tantric shaktism finds mention in the inscription of Allahabad pillar of Samudragupta. Devotees from all over India Converge on this holy place  during Ambubachi and Manasha Puja.
     

  • Shankardev kalakschetra
    Situated in the Panjabari area of Guwahati City,it is an art & cultural museum showcasing the entire North East under one complex. It has a beautiful children`s park which will soon have an elevent circular railway for sightseeing within the campus
     

  • Umananda Temple:
    The great Shiva temple situated on the Peacock Island in the middle of Brahmaputra in Guwahati attracts devotees from all over the country during  the Shiva Ratri.

            
  • Assam state mesuem
    The Assam State Museum was established by the Kamrup Anusandhan Samiti in 1940 and was formally inaugurated bythe Governor of Assam. Late Kanklal Baruah was founder president. In the year 1953, it was taken over by the State Govt. The exhibits of the Museum are displayed under different sections,viz.,  Epigraphy,  Sculptures,  Miscellaneous, Natural History,  Crafts,  Anthropology & Folk Art &  Arms section.

  • Navagraha Temple:
    The temple of nine planets situated on ChitraChal Hill in Guwahati still to-day a center of Astrological and Astronomical research.
     

  • Tirupati Balaji
    The holy Ancient Temple of Lord Tirupati Balaji in Tirupatin is located at Betkuchi,Guwahati. Tamil Nadu has recently constructed a Temple at Betkuchi, Beltola (Guwahati). It is very popular among visitors for unique & artistic designs & architecture. It has temples of Lord Ganesh, Lord Balaji & Lakshmi, Goddess Dugra & a beautiful park amidst serene & clean surroundings.
     

  • Mahavir Temple
    The holy temple of Lord Mahavir is situated at S.R.C.B.Road, Fancy Bazar, Guwahati.

  • Sikh Temple
    A Gurudwara Singh Saheb popular as the Sikh Temple, is centrally located in the heart of Fancy Bazar , Guwahati.

  • Guwahati Tea Auction Center :
    Guwahati Tea Auction Centre is situated very close to the State Secretariate.It is the major tea trade center of the region.

              
  • Guwahati Planetarium
    This is situated nearest Guwahati High Court 7 Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok,it is a popular attraction for people of all age-groups.

             
  • Nehru Park
    The most popular park of Guwahati has been renovated & given a major facelift. There are various recreational facilities as well as cultural theme parks within the main park. One could see a number of cultural performances here during the evening. It is an ideal place to relax. It is situated near Judges Field.

  • Accoland Park
    A children's entertainment park on the way to tje GNB International Airport location amidst the scenic hills of Meghalaya.


MANAS NATIONAL PARK

The only Tiger Project in Assam, Manas is one of India's most magnificent National Parks. It is situated on the bank of the river Manas at the foothills of the Himalayas. It is a well known World heritage site with it's unique combination of scenic beauty and rare wealth of wildlife.
Tigers however are not the only wildlife to be found here. Manas has its own peculiar faunal features, the rarest species of which are Hispid Hare, Pigmy Hog, Golden Langur, Indian Rhinoceros, Asiatic Buffalo etc. Other commonly seen animals are Elephant, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Himalayan Bear, Wild Boar, Samber, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer etc.

Manas is 176 kms from Guwahati by road.

The nearest railhead----Barpeta Road Station which is 40 kms away from Manas.

The nearest airport-----Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Guwahati.

Season to visit is from November to April.

JORHAT

Jorhat  has always been a vibrant town- a perfect mix of tradition and modernity. It was the hub of the anti-British struggle during the pre-independence era.Historically,it was the last capital of the Ahome Dynasty which had ruled Assam for six centuries.

Kaziranga is the abode of rare ONE HORNED INDIAN RHINOCEROS. The Sanctuary teems with numerous forms of wildlife,such as Wild Buffaloes,Sambers,Hog-deer,Elephents,Tigers etc.Kaziranga is accessible from JORHAT & GUWAHATI by ROAD.


ORANG

  • Orang(Rajiv Gandhi) National Park
    It is a 'miniature' Kaziranga covering an area of 78.81 sq. kms. and is situated in Darrang District of Assam. Sixty percent of the sanctuary is grassland. The animals seen in this sanctuary are the One-horned Rhinoceros, Leopard, Elephant, Sambar, Barking Deer, Tiger, varieties of water birds such as the Green Pigeon, Florican,Teal , Goose, etc.Various other species of birds such as the Pelican, Cormorant, Greylag Goose, Large Whistling TeaGreat Adjutant Stork, King Vulture etc. have also found this sanctuary to be their ideal habitat.Orang is 150 kms from Guwahati and 31 kms from Tezpur.

         Both govt. & private buses play regularly from Guwahati.

SIBSAGAR

SIBSAGAR is the ancient capital of AHOM DYNASTY. The Town is built round the Sibsagar Tank at the Site of Historical City RANGPUR.




LEDO

DIGBOI
Digboi has the Oldest operating & Second Oldest Oil field in the world & Digboi Refinery became a centenarian in 2001. Oil was struck in Digboi long before it was found in Middle East. There are precisely 999 oil wells in Digboi. Coal & Tea are also abundant in the vicinity.

HALFLONG
The only Hill Station of Assam and the headquarter of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous District Council. The city lies at an altitude of 680 meters from sea level on the majestic hundred year old Lumding-Badarpur Railway Hill Section-which by itself is a thrilling & rare heritage for Railway enthusiasts. The meter gauge railway track is a pice of engineering marvel & a testimony of the courage & determination of the men who created this transportation wonder with limited technological resources overcoming inhospitable terrain & natural elements at their toughest.
The main tribes of the region are the Dimasas, Jaintias & Zemi Nagas apart from a host of others. The local language is Dimasa.
By Road ? Govt. and private bus service is available to and from Diphu, Nagaon. Dimapur & Silchar.

By Railway- Meter gauge train services from Lumding & Silchar.


JATINGA

A village in the vicinity of the Halflong hills, it is famous for the mystery of birds committing suicide in hordes-a phenomenon yet to be explained. Ornithologists have been flocking to this place to study the phenomenon. The area is rich in a variety of orchids & plants species such as Blue Vandas ( a lovely sky blue orchid)- the only one of its kinds in the world. Halflong has two lakes which offer relaxed boat-rides.

SILCHAR

Silchar on Surma Vally of Assam. It is the Gateway to Mizoram & Tripura. The natural Scenery of  the entire district especially in the portions bordering Meghalaya & Mizoram,is breath-taking. Silchar is Famous for its Cane & Bamboo craft.
