64th Electrical Standards Committee Meeting Held at Headquarters of N. F. Railway

The Electrical Standards Committee meeting was successfully convened at the N. F. Railway Headquarters o­n 30th and 31st May, 2024. This significant event was chaired by the Shri Vijay Pratap Singh, Additional Member (Traction)/Railway Board and Shri Nikhil Pandey, Additional Member (Railway Electrification)/Railway board. Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of N. F. Railway along with high-ranking officials from the Railway Board, Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Principal Chief Electrical Engineers (PCEE) of Zonal Railways and Production Units were also present in the meeting. The 64th Electrical Standards Committee meeting was held after a gap of five years at Northeast India.

The meeting aimed to review and update the Electrical Standards crucial for the efficient functioning and modernization of Indian Railways. Key topics like latest technological advancements in traction systems to improve its efficiency and sustainability, evaluation of existing safety protocols and exploration of innovative solutions to enhance the safety of railway operations, efforts towards standardizing of electrical components and systems to ensure uniformity and interoperability across all zones and production units and incorporating sustainable practices and green technologies in Railway Electrification and Traction systems were discussed.

While addressing the meeting, Shri Satish Kumar, Member (Traction & Rolling Stock)/Railway Board, emphasized o­n the importance of updating and adhering to Standards to meet the dynamic needs of Indian Railways. The sessions featured insightful presentations from experts and lively discussions, leading to the formulation of actionable strategies and solutions so as to further improve Safety & Reliability of Railway Assets.

The close interactions between the Railway Board, RDSO, and the Zonal Railways/Production Units is expected to result in significant improvements in the overall working of Electrical Rolling Stock, Traction Distribution, Railway electrification projects, issues related with Passenger Amenities. The Electrical Standards Committee reiterated its commitment for bringing continuous improvements and excellence in Railway working related with Electrical Assets.
