Elite Players at NFR pen remarkable performance during the FY 2023-24

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is constantly thriving towards creating an ambience to promote and encourage sports events to churn out excellent sportsperson of international standards. Under NFR, Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) is operated which is the zonal level body for sports in NFR. The main objective of NFRSA is to allow our athletes to maximize their potential by utilizing world class sports infrastructure and facilities provided by railways boosting their performance into medal winning o­nes at national and international sports competitions. At present NFR has a talented cluster of International & National players who had represented the country in Olympics, World Championship, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Asian Championship, Asia Cup, etc., in various sports events.

During the FY 2023-24 the players have performed and achieved remarkable valor for the zone at various sporting events like swimming, heptathlon, cycling, weightlifting & athletics. During the year 2023, elite players like Miss Swapna Barman bags Silver Medal in Heptathlon at Asian Athletics Championship held at Bangkok, Shri L. Ronaldo Singh wins Silver Medal in Cycling at Asian Track Cycling Championship held in Malaysia, Shri Manjeet Kumar wins silver medal in track team cycling event at Asia Cup held in Thailand, Shri Amlan Borgohain bags Bronze in 200 Meter Race in World University Games held at China and lastly Miss Bindiyarani Devi clinch Gold Medal in 55 kg category at IWLF Sr. Women National Weightlifting Championship held at Arunachal Pradesh as well as Silver medal at Asian Weightlifting Championship held at Korea. Recently she also added a Bronze Medal in 55 kg category in IWF World Cup held at Phuket, Thailand from 28thMarch till 11th April, 2024.

There are 12 nos of Sports Academies under NFRSA to promote sporting events with the aim to deliver more sportsperson of international standards. Sport events like Athletics, Archery, Aquatics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Martial arts, Wushu & Kung-Fu for self defence, Table Tennis & Volleyball are promoted and facilitated under the guidance of 47 nos of coaches training approximately 2000 nos of potential future athletes.

The Cricket stadium infrastructure is being redeveloped and will soon have five newly laid centre wickets and proper flood lights is underway. Also, the construction of a cricket Indoor Hall with 02 Astro turf wickets with proper lighting is in progress. Facilities like 02 nos of Basketball court, multipurpose AC Indoor Hall with 1800 sitting capacity, Badminton hall with 04 nos of court, Table tennis hall with 06 nos of Boards, Football Stadium with dressing rooms, Boxing rings with international facilities, swimming pool, Weightlifting & Power lifting rooms, Archery arena, 02 nos Volley ball court, Gymnasium hall, Golf Course with 9 holes at Amingaon, 03 nos. synthetic court & 01 no Indoor court and Sports hostel & Physiotherapy room have been upgraded. These facilities are also open to the general public for sports coaching.
