Up gradation works of New Jalpaiguri station in full swing, To be redeveloped as International Train Terminal

For development of Railway stations, the Railway Ministry has formulated up gradation/modernization plans of stations o­n Indian Railways under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme. Among the 1309 stations identified, New Jalpaiguri station under N. F. Railway will be redeveloped in a major way as an International Train Terminalfor providing better, additional and enhanced passenger amenities. Works for the up-gradation have already been started.

At present, in the redevelopment work, dismantling of existing structures at location of departure terminal building has been completed. Excavation work for foundation is also in progress. The foundation and column up to roof slab of Secondary Station Building completed and shuttering for roof slab is in progress. The foundation and structure up to 2nd floor of the Arrival-1 Building completed and the work of making columns up to terrace level is going o­n.Whereas the foundation and structure of parcel and RMS building up to 1st floor has been completed and shuttering for roof slab is in progress. Earth filling and compaction work is in progress for the new platform. Structural drawing for COP is also under preparation. Barricading for piling work started in the elevated road near parcel and RMSbuilding and piling work will start soon. Site office, conference room have already been commissioned and UTS, PRS, MCO have been shifted to new locations. Architectural drawings for Departure terminal, Podium parking, drop off canopy has also been finalized.

The station will have a huge roof plaza equipped with state-of-the-art passenger amenities. Waiting lounge, cafeteria, lift-escalator and podium parking will also be arranged here. Along with this, the entire station will be disabled friendly, under which all disabled friendly facilities will be provided at the station. There will be separate arrangements for arrival and departure for smooth movement of passengers. For environmental protection, the station will be developed as a green building and arrangements for solar energy and water conservation system will be installed here.

New Jalpaiguri station is o­ne of the largest as well as busiest railway stations of N.F. Railway, which serves as a crucial point for all the North-eastern states. The redeveloped New Jalpaiguri Railway Station will not o­nly provide world class facilities to the passengers, but the redevelopment of this station will also give a boost to the tourism and industry of the region.
