‘One Station one Product’ (OSOP) scheme has been launched by Indian Railways with objectives to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ vision of the Government of India, provide a market for local /indigenous products and create additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of society.
Railways provides OSOP stall designed by National Design Institute at railway stations for showcasing, selling and giving high visibility to indigenous/local products.The products category is indigenous/Geographical Indications (GI) tagged/local of that place and could include artefacts, handicrafts, textiles and handlooms, toys, leather products, traditional appliances/instruments, garments, gems and jewellery, etc made by local artisans, weavers, craftsmen, tribes, etc and processed, semi processed and other food products indigenously made/grown in the area.Individuals at the bottom of the pyramid/marginalised and weaker sections and self-help groups are being encouraged.Allotment is provided for a period from 15 days up to 3 months with a nominal registration fee for participation in the scheme.
Individual Artisans, Individual Craftsman, Individual Weavers, Tribals, Farmers, Members of Self-Help Group, Members of Women Self Help Groups, Members associated with registered Micro Enterprises and Members associated with Social Organisations, State Govt Bodies, etc can avail the benefits under this scheme.
Under the jurisdiction of NFR, 122 OSOP outlets are functioning as on 06th July, 2023 spreading over 86 railway stations. In Alipurduar division 27 stations are having 39 OSOP outlets; Katihar division 12 stations 26 outlets; Lumding division 15 stations 16 outlets; Rangiya division 20 stations 27 outlets & Tinsukia division 12 stations 14 outlets. All the stalls are showcasing and marketing varieties of distinct and invaluable products which are locally manufactured. Some major stations include Guwahati, Dibrugarh, New Tinsukia in Assam, New Alipuduar, New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. A variety of Assamese pitha, traditional Assamese Gamosa, traditional Rajbongshi Dress, Jhapi, Local textile, Jute Products (Cap, Gamosa, Doll), handloom, Darjeeling tea, local made Designer Bangles, necklace, ear ring, hair clips etc. as well as other local food products are catching the attention of passengers.
The pilot project of the scheme was started on 25.03.2022 and at present, 782 stations are covered with 850 OSOP outlets in 21 States and 3 Union Territories across the country.
