The Northeast Frontier Railway celebrated 146th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as India marks Janjatiya Gaurav Divas on November 15. The day was observed to recall the contribution of this great Indian tribal freedom fighter, for spearheading the Tribal movement against the British Raj in the present day Jharkhand area during India’s Independence movement.
At the N.F. Railway HQ, floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Bhagwan Birsa Munda by Shri Boniface Lakra, Sr. Deputy General Manager & Chief Vigilance Officer / N.F. Railway in presence of other senior railway officials. Shri Lakra also spoke about the contribution of Bhagwan Birsa Munda in the fight against exploitative system of the British colonial government. Addl General Manager/N.F. Railway Shri Rahul Gautam also paid floral tribute to the portrait.
Bhagwan Birsa Munda was born on 15thNovember 1875, at a village of the present Khunti district of Jharkhand. He is known for the struggle for freedom from British as well as ensuring rights of tribals. He was the great tribal hero who fought for the rights of water, forest and land among tribals. He had the confidence of his community. He was known as Bhagwan among tribals of different parts of country.
