In a first of its kind in Northeast region, Lumding Division of N.F.Railway has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with M/s. Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) and M/s. Central Electronics Limited, for installing a 700 KWP grid interactive Solar Power Plant at Guwahati Railway station. CONCOR is a market leader having 63 Inland Container Depot in India, while CEL is a Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology.
This is the first such mega initiative on N.F.Railway and one of the largest over entire Indian Railways. It will be set up under the Corporate Social Responsibility scheme (CSR) initiative of M/s. CONCOR and will be implemented by M/s. CEL in close coordination with the Lumding Division of N.F.Railway. Total cost of the project including comprehensive maintenance for five years will be Rs. 6,77,75,401/- and there will be no financial implication on the N.F.Railway. The entire work for the project is expected to be completed by February, 2017. It is to be mentioned here that CEL utilizes home grown technologies in the country and is pioneer in the country in the field of Solar Photovoltaic.
The proposed solar plant will cater to the electricity needs of Guwahati Railway station which is the busiest railway station in the Northeast. Commissioning of this project will go a long way in harnessing renewable solar energy and contributing towards environmental sustainability and a pollution free world.
