The 92nd meeting of the Zonal Railway User’s Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) was held at Luitgarh Officers’ Club, Nambari in Maligaon today. Altogether 42 members of the committee were present at the meeting which included Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, Parliamentary Secretaries, representatives of stake holders like Passenger Associations, Chambers of Commerce from all over N.F.Railway. Prominent public representatives who attended the meeting were – Kumari Sushmita Dev, MP (LS), Silchar; Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MP (LS), Jorhat; Shri Rameswar Teli, MP (LS), Dibrugarh; Shri Ram Prasad Sharma, MP (LS), Sonitpur; Shri Ronald Sepa Tlau, MP, Mizoram; Shri Gopal Bareily, Parliamentary Secy, Sikkim; Shri Amenba Yaden, Parliamentary Secy, Nagaland; Shri Ashahel D. Shira, Parliamentary Secy, Meghalaya; Shri T.Mangibabu Singh MLA, Manipur, Shri M. Lakshmikumar Singh, Commissioner Transport, Govt of Manipur. Representatives of passenger associations from all over northeast like Katihar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Dimapur, Dibrugarh and North Lakhimpur were also present. Railway side was represented by Shri H.K.Jaggi, General Manager, N.F.Railway, Shri Ratan Lal, Addl. General Manager, N.F.Railway alongwith Principal Heads of Department of all Departments.
All the members were accorded a warm welcome by the railway as the agenda was set by a presentation on the various achievements and initiatives of the railway. There were detailed discussions on various issues of importance like progress of ongoing projects in NE Region, improvement of passenger amenities in stations, provisions of additional trains, additional stoppages to trains etc. All the members expressed their satisfaction on the performance of the railway especially in extension of BG connectivity to new states which gained momentum during the last two years.
The ZRUCC is a forum, having a two-year term, constituted with members from different stakeholders of Zonal Railways including elected representative of Assemblies, Parliament, Passengers’ Association, Chambers of Commerce, eminent personalities, journalists etc. within the zonal jurisdiction to solicit views and suggestions on working of the railways. Views and suggestions of the members are considered to be a very vital input in formulation of programmes and policies of the railway.
